Carl Sagan takes Questions - CSICOP article

Hi all - the CSICOP site recently had one of Carl's question and answer
sessions on their website. Refer here
http://www.csicop.org/si/2005-07/sagan.html

- or browse through the website yourself, in case you're worried (and
considering the other posts in this newsgroup, I'm not surprised).

I'm unwilling to post segments here with the permission of Ann Druyan -
but she did give that permission to CSICOP/The Skeptical Inquirer.

Regards

Thanks for the link. It was great to read words of Carl Sagan I had not
read before. It is such a relief from the words you hear now-a-days. I'm
not so optimistic as is Ann Druyan though. I feel the religious war is
going to continue for some time. I hope someone new like Carl Sagan can
come along and help us wage a war on religious extremeism. I'm not refering
to the war on Islamic estremeism, but a war on Christian Extremism.

I suspect it's worse in the US than elsewhere in the Anglo-Saxon world,
Hari. We also need a new Carl to combat several other things in the US.
I've yet to see any candidates with his breadth of vision.

Hasten to add that I'm in NZ and have no right to criticize (what I
suspect) is your government, and I'm well aware of it.

A new Carl Sagan would not be with you on this one. Carl's own words from
the above cited article:

"...So the idea of an all-out attack on religion I think on many grounds
would be foolish, but the idea of treating Biblical literalism, for example,
with some skeptical scrutiny is an excellent idea. But it is being done, has
been done for the last century by Biblical scholars themselves. I don't
think there's any particular expertise in this movement for a critical
examination of the Bible. There are other people who are doing it just fine.
